Dubai Solar Park Phase 7: 2 000 MW PV + 1 400 MW Battery

Dubai is doubling down on its clean‑energy ambitions. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is set to expand dramatically under the seventh phase announced by the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA). This phase will bring in 2 000 megawatts of photovoltaic (PV) generation capability alongside a giant 1 400 MW battery storage system with six‑hour duration — providing a total storage capacity of 8 400 megawatt‑hours.

Under the independent power producer (IPP) model, globally qualified companies and consortiums have been invited to submit proposals. The project is fully aligned with Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 — both of which aim for 100 % of the emirate’s total power capacity from clean sources by mid‑century.

DEWA’s MD & CEO, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, emphasised that this phase forms a strategic step in diversifying Dubai’s energy mix, scaling renewable share and establishing Dubai as a global hub for sustainability and innovation. Indeed, Dubai has already raised its renewable‑energy target in the energy mix for 2030 from 25 % to 36 %. With Phase 7 added, the solar park’s total production capacity is expected to reach 8 060 MW by 2030, cutting more than 8.5 million tonnes of CO₂ annually.

Currently the solar park has achieved 3 860 MW of capacity, with 800 MW more under construction — and with Phase 7 it will leap forward dramatically. This move signals not just increased clean‑energy output, but also deeper integration of large‑scale storage — a key enabler for shifting from intermittent generation to reliable clean supply.
