Dubai Municipality is playing a key role in shaping the future of the city, focusing on sustainable development and improving the lives of its residents. This includes building better infrastructure, offering better housing services, and introducing digital technology to make municipal services smarter. These efforts aim to improve quality of life, boost community health, and ensure Dubai stays resilient in the long run, according to His Excellency Marwan bin Ghalita, the Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality.
In a media briefing, Bin Ghalita shared the Municipality’s latest achievements and plans. These cover a variety of important areas, such as infrastructure, housing, technology, health, food safety, and community spaces. He emphasized that Dubai’s growth is a result of the vision and leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and the Ruler of Dubai. Under their leadership, Dubai has become one of the top cities in the world for living, working, and visiting.

Bin Ghalita explained that Dubai is moving beyond being just a global city. It is working to become the city of the future, driven by proactive strategies and an emphasis on developing talented teams to manage challenges and emergencies.
He also thanked the media for its important role in supporting the city’s progress and encouraged continued cooperation to help Dubai achieve its ambitious goals.
Nasser Bushahab, the CEO of Dubai Municipality’s Planning and Governance Sector, talked about the Municipality’s efforts to meet the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040. These plans aim to improve the city’s quality of life and attract skilled people to drive economic growth.
Sustainable Infrastructure and Waste Management Adel Al Marzouqi, the CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency, shared updates on major infrastructure projects. One of them is the ‘Tasreef’ project, which is the most advanced rainwater drainage system in the region. Set to be completed by 2033, this project has a total investment of AED 30 billion. It aims to serve nine areas in Dubai. Another important project is the Dubai Strategic Tunnels for Sewerage, which is worth AED 80 billion. It recently entered the tendering phase for partnerships between the public and private sectors.
Al Marzouqi also mentioned the Waste-to-Energy Centre in Warsan. This facility turns waste into renewable energy, generating enough power to supply 135,000 homes. Dubai Municipality plans to close all landfills by 2027.
Housing, Urban Planning, and Digital Transformation Maryam Al Muhairi, the CEO of the Building Regulation and Permits Agency, spoke about housing initiatives like the ‘Home is a Priority’ program. This program helps provide housing solutions for Emirati families and contributes to community stability. Al Muhairi also discussed the digital transformation of Dubai’s construction services, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms to streamline services.
One of the most exciting projects is the ‘Dubai Digital Twin,’ which is creating a digital copy of the city. This will help planners and decision-makers improve services and plan for the future.
Public Health, Food Safety, and Sustainable Services Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafie, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health, and Safety Agency, explained Dubai’s focus on public health and food safety. One key program, ‘Safe Water for a Healthy Community,’ works to improve water safety in senior citizens’ homes across Dubai.
Dr. Rafie also talked about the ‘Montaji Plus’ app, which helps regulate food products to ensure they meet health and safety standards. Dubai receives millions of tons of food every year, and ensuring its safety is a priority.
Recreational Facilities, Parks, and Beaches Bader Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency, shared updates on Dubai’s public spaces. Teams at Dubai Municipality plant 600 trees a day and produce millions of seedlings each year to keep the city green. Several projects are underway to improve parks and beaches, such as the Jumeirah Beach project, which will open to the public in July.
Partnerships and Business Growth Sayed Ismail Al Hashimi, Acting CEO of the Corporate Support Sector, emphasized the importance of partnerships between the government and private companies. These partnerships help create a business-friendly environment and support investments in the city. Dubai Municipality has set aside AED 28 billion for 13 projects that will improve the quality of life in Dubai.
Enhancing Customer Experience Al Hashimi also talked about Dubai Municipality’s efforts to improve customer service. The Municipality has introduced a new virtual appointment system that allows customers to book online meetings with service advisors, reducing the need for in-person visits. This will make it easier for people to access municipal services.
Dubai Municipality is focused on creating a sustainable, smart, and healthy city that will continue to improve the quality of life for everyone living in Dubai.
