Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has started a new programme to bring life to Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood. This programme will celebrate the area’s old history and rich culture. It also wants to make Al Fahidi a great place for visitors to explore.

The programme will continue until the end of December. It includes many panel talks, fun workshops, and community discussions. These activities will show local traditions and crafts to everyone. Dubai Culture wants to share Dubai’s history with people around the world and show how special Al Fahidi is on Dubai’s cultural map.

The activities are planned by expert guides. They focus on making families and children take part in saving the UAE’s heritage. A special part is the Family Workshops, held on the first Saturday of every month. One fun event is ‘Doors of Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood’ on 28 June. Here, children can learn about the artistic designs and decorations on the old doors in the area. Another event is ‘Barajeel and the Magic Brush’ seminar on 5 July. There will also be an ‘Al Fahidi-Inspired Bookmarks’ class on 2 August, where kids can make bookmarks based on Al Fahidi designs.

The Live Demonstrations of Emirati Crafts programme will give visitors a deep look into old Emirati crafts. They can see how these crafts were made and what stories they hold. Experts from the Turath Centre for Traditional Handicrafts will lead these sessions. Some upcoming workshops are ‘Gargoor-Making’ on 12 July and ‘The Palm Tree… A Legend of Tales’ on 16 July. In August, people can join ‘Safafa’ (palm frond weaving) and ‘Burqa Sewing’ workshops along with many other fun activities.

Mariam Al Tamimi, who is the Acting Director of the Heritage Sites Department at Dubai Culture, said that this programme is very important. She said Al Fahidi is one of Dubai’s most important places because it has many old buildings and a lively environment for visitors.

This programme will help to make the national identity stronger. It shows Dubai Culture’s care for keeping both the physical and non-physical culture safe. Mariam said it is Dubai Culture’s duty to keep the city’s history alive. Through these activities, Dubai Culture wants to give people real experiences that mix culture, heritage, art, and new ideas. The programme also looks to the future by helping children learn new skills to keep these old crafts alive and useful in modern times.
