Novak Djokovic, one of the greatest tennis players in history, is not sure if he will ever play again at the French Open. The 38-year-old Serbian tennis star lost his semi-final match to world number one Jannik Sinner in straight sets — 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (3) — after missing three crucial set points in the third set.
After the match, Djokovic spoke to the media and said, “This could have been the last match I ever played here. I don’t know.” He admitted feeling more emotional than usual, especially toward the end, because it might have been his final time playing at Roland Garros.
The three-time French Open champion received a warm and loud ovation from the crowd at Court Philippe Chatrier. As he left the court, he bent down to touch the red clay and waved to the cheering fans in a heartfelt moment.
Although Djokovic hasn’t confirmed his full plans for the future, he said he still hopes to play at Wimbledon later this month and the US Open in August. These two tournaments are part of his regular schedule, and for now, they remain his main focus.

“At the moment, I will stick with the plan to play the Grand Slams,” he said. “Wimbledon and the US Open are definitely in the plans. As for other tournaments, I’m not so sure.”
Djokovic, who has won 24 Grand Slam titles — the same number as Australian legend Margaret Court — was chasing a record 25th title in Paris this year. That dream will now have to wait.
He added that Wimbledon has always been his favorite tournament since childhood and that he might have better chances there or on hard courts, like at the Australian Open. “Twelve months feels like a long time at this stage of my career,” he admitted. “I want to keep playing, but whether I’ll be back here next year — I really don’t know.”
Djokovic last won the French Open in 2023. As fans wait to see what he’ll do next, the tennis world hopes this was not his last dance at Roland Garros.
