At least ten people lost their lives and 61 others were injured after a freight train collided with a double-decker bus northwest of Mexico City. The tragic accident occurred on September 8, 2025, leaving families and local authorities in shock.

The collision happened in an industrial area along the highway connecting Atlacomulco, a town about 115 kilometers (71 miles) northwest of the capital, to Maravatio in the nearby state of Michoacan. This highway is a busy route used by both passenger and cargo vehicles, making the incident particularly devastating.

According to reports from local officials, the victims included seven women and three men. First responders rushed to the scene immediately after the crash, but the impact of the train left the bus heavily damaged. The top deck of the bus was smashed, and the metal frame was bent and twisted, showing the sheer force of the collision.

Emergency teams cordoned off the area as they worked to rescue the injured. Many of the survivors were taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care, with several in serious condition. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the accident, examining whether human error, technical failure, or other factors contributed to this tragic event.

Witnesses described a terrifying scene, with the sound of the train colliding with the bus echoing across the industrial zone. Pieces of debris were scattered along the highway, making rescue operations difficult. Local police and medical teams worked together to stabilize the injured and provide immediate aid.

The State of Mexico’s attorney general’s office confirmed the number of deaths and is coordinating with local and federal authorities to manage the aftermath. Officials also emphasized the importance of reviewing safety measures along busy railway crossings to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

This tragic accident has sent shockwaves through communities in both the State of Mexico and Michoacan. Families of the victims are mourning their sudden loss, and authorities are urging the public to follow safety rules near train tracks to prevent further accidents.

This collision is now under full investigation, with railway operators and transport officials expected to release a detailed report in the coming days. Meanwhile, emergency response teams continue to assist survivors and ensure the affected area is secure.
