Dubai | 18 April 2025 — Spanish visual artist Carla Gía, known for her emotionally charged monochromatic compositions, is making a striking impact at World Art Dubai 2025, currently underway at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The Barcelona-born artist, now based in the UAE, is exhibiting a collection that challenges conventional perceptions of contrast, identity, and emotional truth.

Rooted in abstract expressionism, Gía’s works are defined by a restrained palette of black and white, yet they evoke a complexity that transcends color. Her visual language is not built on decoration but on duality — a deep exploration of opposing forces: light and shadow, reason and instinct, strength and softness.

Gía’s journey as an artist began at the age of eight, during a therapy session in Barcelona where she first picked up a paintbrush. “I was just a child, but the emotions inside me were already too big for words,” she tells DXB News Network. “What came out on that paper wasn’t an image—it was a storm.”

This early encounter with art as a means of emotional survival would go on to shape her life's work. Today, that storm has become her canvas — a place where truth is not spoken, but felt.

For Gía, black represents resilience, while white stands for authenticity. Yet, it is not one or the other that defines her work — it is the tension between the two. “What saved me was the dance between them,” she explains. “Light isn’t light without the shadow that defines it.”

Her compositions invite viewers into this dialogue — not to provide answers, but to serve as mirrors. Mirrors that reflect back the viewer’s own chaos, stillness, and contradictions.

Although Gía’s artistic journey began as a path of self-exploration, her work has since evolved into a space of shared reflection. “Now, I paint to serve others. To help, to inspire, to offer a mirror to those seeking their own balance and wholeness,” she says.

Her pieces have moved audiences to tears. “Some viewers have told me, ‘This is exactly how I feel, but I didn’t know how to express it.’”

In those moments, Gía says, she feels truly seen — and reminded of why she continues to create.

Now residing in the United Arab Emirates, Gía credits the region with renewing her sense of inner clarity. “The desert has reconnected me with my spiritual essence,” she reflects. “It softened parts of me I didn’t know were hard.”

Her presence at World Art Dubai marks not just a geographic shift, but a spiritual evolution in her work. The stillness of the desert, she says, mirrors the inner quiet she had been seeking for years.

When asked what her younger self would say if she walked into her current gallery, Gía’s response is both personal and universal: “She’d hug me and say she’s proud. She’d remind me it’s okay to be different. That I was never meant to fit in—but to be fully and unapologetically myself.”  It is in this return to self—this quiet, powerful affirmation—that Carla Gía’s artistic mission becomes most clear.

Carla Gía’s work is on display at World Art Dubai 2025 through April 20. In a fair filled with color and spectacle, her exhibition stands out for its emotional weight, visual restraint, and spiritual depth. Through her use of contrast, minimalism, and a deeply introspective process, Gía has carved out a voice that is not only unique, but urgent—a reminder that art, at its best, doesn’t just reflect the world. It reflects the soul.
