A woman from the UK who came to Delhi to meet a man she befriended on Instagram was raped by him at a hotel in Mahipalpur, located in southwest Delhi's Vasant Kunj area. The man, identified as Kailash, and his friend, Wasim, have been arrested for rape and molestation, the police reported on Thursday.
The incident happened on Tuesday night after the woman, who was visiting India, had dinner and drinks with Kailash, a 25-year-old unemployed man. Kailash, who lives in Vasundhara-Mayur Vihar, has been charged with rape, while Wasim, a housekeeper, has been charged with molestation.

The victim went to a hospital for a check-up on Wednesday morning, where she told the staff about the attack. The hospital staff then contacted the police. The police have informed the British High Commission about the incident.
Kailash, who has studied only up to Class 12 and cannot speak English, managed to impress the British woman on social media using Google Translate. He would type in Hindi and then read out the English translation to her.
The crime was discovered when the woman went for a medical check-up and reported the assault. The two men were arrested later that afternoon and are now in police custody.
The woman arrived in India on March 7 for a vacation in Maharashtra and Goa. She called Kailash and invited him to join her in Mumbai, but Kailash couldn’t make it. Instead, he invited her to Delhi, where she arrived on March 11 and checked into a hotel in Mahipalpur.
Once she arrived at the hotel, the woman called Kailash to meet her. Kailash, along with Wasim, came to the hotel. It was there that the assault took place. Kailash allegedly tried to assault her, but she raised an alarm, prompting Kailash to call in Wasim to help.
During the investigation, the police found chats between Kailash and the woman on social media. An official revealed that the woman didn’t even know Kailash’s real profile.
