Bridge collapses in typhoons-hit Vietnam sending lorry and car into river

A 30-year-old bridge spanning the Red River in Vietnam's northern Phu Tho province collapsed on Monday, resulting in eight people being reported missing, according to a statement from the provincial People's Committee. The collapse, which caused a lorry and several cars to fall into the river, occurred amidst severe weather conditions brought by Typhoon Yagi.

The provincial authorities have responded by imposing restrictions and bans on traffic across other bridges over the Red River, including Hanoi's Chuong Duong Bridge, in an effort to ensure public safety. The collapse is part of a broader crisis triggered by Typhoon Yagi, which has devastated the region. The typhoon has claimed the lives of at least 58 people and left 40 others missing, according to state media reports.
