Massive Blaze Hits BYD Parking Structure, No Casualties

A massive fire broke out at a multi-level parking facility inside BYD’s manufacturing complex in Shenzhen, triggering a large-scale emergency response and sending thick plumes of black smoke across the industrial skyline.

Fire Breaks Out in Parking Structure

The incident occurred in the Pingshan district’s Ma Luan subdistrict, where a “three-dimensional” parking garage was engulfed in flames. Dramatic visuals circulating online showed fire rapidly spreading across multiple levels of the structure, with dense smoke visible from afar.

Emergency services, including fire and police units, rushed to the site and worked extensively to contain and extinguish the blaze. Authorities later confirmed that the fire has been fully brought under control, with no casualties reported.

Vehicles Stored Were Not for Sale

According to official statements, the affected facility was used exclusively to store test, experimental, and scrapped vehicles. BYD clarified that no customer-bound vehicles or active production units were involved.

The company emphasized that its main manufacturing operations at the Pingshan plant remain unaffected, and there has been no disruption to ongoing production or deliveries.

Preliminary Cause Under Investigation

Initial reports from Chinese media suggest the fire may have been triggered by improper external construction work near the structure. Authorities have ruled out any battery-related defects in mass-produced vehicles at this stage.

However, a detailed investigation is still underway to determine the exact cause and assess the extent of the damage.

Despite the scale of the incident, BYD’s broader operations remain stable. The automaker continues to expand its infrastructure, including the recent rollout of thousands of flash charging stations across China, as it strengthens its position in the global electric vehicle market.
