Belgian actress Emilie Dequenne has passed away at the age of 43. She died on Sunday in a hospital near Paris after fighting a rare type of cancer. Her family and agent confirmed the sad.
In October 2023, she shared that she had adrenocortical carcinoma, a rare and serious cancer that affects the adrenal gland. Even though she was sick, she stayed strong and continued to be part of the film world.

Dequenne became famous in 1999 with her first movie, Rosetta. The film was made by the Dardenne brothers, and her acting in it won her the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. Rosetta also won the top prize, the Palme d’Or, making it a big moment in her career.
Over the years, she acted in many French-language films. Some of her well-known movies include The Girl on the Train (2009) and Our Children (2012). She won many awards for her performances.
In 2024, she returned to the Cannes Film Festival to celebrate 25 years since Rosetta was released. She attended the event with the Dardenne brothers. That same year, she worked on Survive, an English-language disaster film. This was the last movie she acted in before her illness became worse.
Her passing is a great loss to the film world. She was loved for her talent, hard work, and the strong characters she played in her movies.
