Australia have suffered a setback ahead of their ODI series against India as star all-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out due to side soreness. The injury, though diagnosed as low grade, has prompted Cricket Australia to take a cautious approach given his crucial role in the upcoming Ashes.
Green will miss all three ODIs scheduled for October 19, 23, and 25, but is expected to make his return for Western Australia’s next Sheffield Shield match starting October 28. The 25-year-old recently made his bowling comeback after undergoing back surgery last year, claiming a wicket in a four-over spell during the previous Shield fixture. Officials confirmed that this latest setback is unrelated to his past surgery.
In Green’s absence, Marnus Labuschagne has been added to the squad. The Queensland batter has been in fine touch in domestic cricket, scoring two centuries in the 50-over format this season. Interestingly, Labuschagne was initially omitted from the ODI squad following poor returns in the home series against South Africa, but his domestic form has now earned him a recall.

Australia have made multiple changes ahead of the first ODI in Perth. Josh Philippe replaces Josh Inglis, who continues to recover from a calf strain, while Adam Zampa will miss the opener due to family reasons. Both Zampa and Inglis are expected to be available from the second game onward.
Australia’s squad for the series is led by Mitchell Marsh and features a mix of youth and experience, including Mitchell Starc, Travis Head, Josh Hazlewood, and Matthew Renshaw. Despite Green’s absence, the Aussies remain confident of a strong showing against India as they continue fine-tuning their combination ahead of a busy international season.
Australia ODI squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe, Matthew Renshaw, Matthew Short, Mitchell Starc.
