Anurag Kashyap, the well-known director of "Gangs of Wasseypur," has reacted sharply to comments made by Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos about the streaming platform’s early choices in India. Kashyap, who helped create Netflix India’s first original series "Sacred Games," did not hold back his feelings.
The issue started when Ted Sarandos appeared on a podcast hosted by Nikhil Kamath. During the conversation, Sarandos wondered if Netflix made the right decision by starting in India with "Sacred Games" back in 2018. He suggested that maybe Netflix should have chosen something more "populist"—meaning a show that would appeal to a wider audience.
Kashyap was not happy with this suggestion. He posted on Instagram, sharing a screenshot of a news report about Sarandos’ comments. In his post, Kashyap wrote that he always thought tech leaders didn’t understand storytelling, but Sarandos was “the definition of dumb.” Kashyap’s words show how strongly he feels about the value of "Sacred Games" and its impact.
