A day after Imad Wasim announced that he would be retiring from international cricket, Pakistan's pacer Mohammad Amir also made his retirement official on Saturday.
The 32-year-old fast bowler shared his decision on social media, calling it "inevitable" after much thought. Amir explained that he felt it was the right time to step away and allow younger players to take charge and push Pakistan cricket forward.

"After careful consideration, I have taken the difficult decision to retire from international cricket. These decisions are never easy but are inevitable. I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan Cricket to new heights!" Amir wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Amir added that playing for his country has always been the greatest honor of his life and thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), his family, friends, and most importantly, his fans, for their continuous love and support throughout his career.

Amir retired from international cricket in 2021 but made a comeback earlier this year, stating that he was available for selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, after careful reflection, he decided to retire once again.
His career was filled with ups and downs, with the most notable controversy being a five-year ban he received from 2010 to 2015 for his involvement in a spot-fixing scandal. Despite this setback, Amir continued to perform at the highest level of cricket.
During his career, Amir played 36 Test matches, 61 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 62 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He took 119 wickets in Tests with an average of 30.47. In ODIs, he took 81 wickets with an average of 29.62, and in T20Is, he picked up 71 wickets with an average of 21.94. In total, Amir took 271 wickets in 159 matches across all formats.
His last international match was during the T20 World Cup, where Pakistan played their final group stage match against Ireland. Amir finished the tournament with seven wickets in four matches.
In a similar move, Imad Wasim, another experienced player from Pakistan, also retired from international cricket. Imad shared his decision on social media, stating, "After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket." However, Imad said he would continue playing domestic and franchise cricket and hoped to entertain fans in new ways.
The Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) Chief Operating Officer, Sumair Ahmad Syed, thanked both Amir and Imad for their contributions to Pakistan cricket and wished them the best for their future endeavors.
"On behalf of the PCB, I extend sincere gratitude to Amir and Imad for their services to Pakistan cricket and wish them the very best in their future endeavors," Syed said in a statement.
