The 34th Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is set to take off under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region. Organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and the Emirates Motorsports Organisation (EMSO), this prestigious rally will introduce new and exciting routes that highlight the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the emirate. The event will bring together both amateur and professional racers from around the world.
For the first time in the rally’s history, the 2025 edition will feature five stages instead of the usual format. Another major change is the starting point, which will now be Al Ain instead of Abu Dhabi. The first stage will take drivers and riders from Al Ain to Mezeer’ah before heading towards Al Qua’a, where a marathon stage will be held. Unlike previous years, this marathon stage will not be limited to bikes but will also include cars, making the challenge even more intense.
Strong Support for the Desert Challenge
The Ruler’s Representative Court in Al Dhafra Region has played a key role in supporting the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. The region is known for its efforts in promoting economic growth and tourism, and the rally has become a major event on the global off-road racing calendar. It is also the second round of the FIA and FIM World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC), making it a significant event for motorsports enthusiasts.

His Excellency Nasser Al Mansoori, Undersecretary of the Ruler’s Representative Court in Al Dhafra Region, emphasised the importance of this event. He said, “His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is pleased to continue supporting the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge as it enters its 34th year. This event plays a key role in promoting the cultural and natural beauty of the Al Dhafra region on a global stage.”
He also highlighted that the return to Mezeer’ah and the introduction of new locations such as Al Ain and Al Qua’a demonstrate how the Desert Challenge continues to grow and evolve. He added, “The region is proud to embrace both tradition and progress, values that are reflected in the ever-changing nature of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.”
A Legacy of Growth and Excellence
His Excellency Aref Al Awani, Secretary General of ADSC, expressed his gratitude towards His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his continued support. He also praised EMSO for their efforts in developing motorsports in the UAE.
He said, “Over the past 34 years, the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge has continued to grow and evolve. Thanks to hard work and a commitment to progress, it remains one of the most important rally-raid events in the world.”
A Challenging New Route
The 2025 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge will begin in Al Ain, a city rich in history and known as the Oasis of the UAE. The first stage will take competitors through the Liwa Oasis, heading towards Mezeer’ah. This opening stage is expected to be one of the toughest, as racers will navigate through challenging terrain, including the massive 300-metre-high dunes of the Rub’ Al Khali (Empty Quarter).
With its new routes, marathon stages, and a strong lineup of international competitors, the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge 2025 promises to be one of the most exciting editions in the event’s long and prestigious history.
