Sheikh Tahnoun's engagement with Musk and Bezos comes as part of a high-level delegation accompanying President Sheikh Mohamed during his official visit to the United States. Following his conversation with Bezos, Sheikh Tahnoun stated they explored various collaboration opportunities in the fields of AI and advanced technology.

He elaborated on the importance of global partnerships in achieving technological leadership and fostering economic growth, asserting that such collaborations are essential for driving development that enhances sustainability and prosperity across multiple sectors. “The UAE is committed to establishing itself as a leading nation in anticipation of the upcoming era of AI, focusing on investments in talent and diverse partnerships,” Sheikh Tahnoun added.

In a broader context, this meeting aligns with the recent commitments made by the UAE and the US to strengthen ties in advanced technology and innovation. Sheikh Tahnoun highlighted the importance of addressing the associated challenges and risks, advocating for collaborative efforts to create regulatory frameworks crucial for driving economic and social development. This collaborative approach is essential for improving quality of life and fostering a sustainable and prosperous future.

In the realm of artificial intelligence, Group 42, a leading tech group chaired by Sheikh Tahnoun, has recently secured a substantial investment of $1.5 billion from Microsoft to expand its operations. Additionally, G42 announced a partnership with global chip manufacturer Nvidia to develop AI solutions aimed at enhancing global weather forecasting accuracy through a project named Earth-2.

The discussions also come on the heels of a meeting between Sheikh Mohamed and US President Joe Biden at the White House, with Sheikh Tahnoun present. In a social media update, Sheikh Tahnoun reiterated Sheikh Mohamed's commitment to strengthening the UAE-US strategic partnership, focusing on sectors driven by knowledge and innovation to ensure sustainable economic growth and a prosperous future for both nations.

In September, Sheikh Tahnoun was recognized as one of the 100 most influential people in AI by Time magazine, reflecting his pivotal role in the UAE's initiatives to champion the responsible use of technology. The UAE's dedication to artificial intelligence is exemplified by the establishment of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in 2019. The university celebrated the graduation of its first cohort in January 2023.

Further advancements in the UAE's AI capabilities were marked by the unveiling of an Abu Dhabi-developed large language model for Arabic, aimed at integrating one of the world’s most widely spoken languages into the AI mainstream. The Jais model, an open-source bilingual Arabic-English initiative, was developed in collaboration with G42, the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, and Silicon Valley-based Cerebras Systems.

Through these initiatives and collaborations, Sheikh Tahnoun aims to position the UAE at the forefront of AI innovation, fostering advancements that significantly improve the quality of life for all.
