A 64-year-old woman named Arom was rescued in Thailand after spending two harrowing hours ensnared by a massive python. The incident occurred on Tuesday at her home near Bangkok while she was doing the dishes. Arom felt a sharp pain in her thigh and, upon looking down, discovered that a 13 to 16-foot python had latched onto her.

"I was about to scoop some water, and when I sat down, it bit me immediately. When I looked, I saw the snake wrapping around me," she recounted. The python coiled tightly around her torso, forcing her down onto the kitchen floor. Despite her desperate attempts to free herself, Arom found herself unable to escape the snake's powerful grip.

"I grabbed it by the head, but it wouldn't release me," she said. "It only tightened."

Arom cried out for help, but initially, no one responded. Eventually, a neighbor heard her distress calls and contacted the police. "We were shocked to see the lady tied down on the floor with the python wrapping around her," Police Major Sergeant Anusorn Wongmalee from the Phra Samut Chedi Police Station said. "The snake was really big."

When the police and animal control officers arrived, they used a crowbar to strike the python on the head until it finally released Arom. After about two hours in the snake's clutches, she was freed but required medical attention for several bites sustained during the ordeal.

Following the rescue, the snake managed to escape, and police stated they were unable to capture it. "We couldn't catch it," they confirmed.

Pythons are non-venomous constrictors, known for killing their prey by gradually squeezing the breath out of them. Thailand is home to around 250 snake species, including three types of pythons: the reticulated, Burmese, and Blood python.

According to Thailand's National Health Security Office, approximately 12,000 people received treatment for snake and animal bites in the previous year, with 26 fatalities reported from snake bites. While deaths caused by large constrictors are considered rare, there have been incidents in Indonesia where individuals have been killed by pythons in recent years. Last month, a woman was discovered dead inside a python's belly in South Sulawesi province, highlighting the dangers posed by these massive reptiles.
