Witnesses described harrowing scenes of explosions resembling firecrackers and cries for help echoing throughout the neighborhood. Hanoi police reported extensive damage, with the fire consuming vehicles parked in the courtyard and ultimately claiming 14 lives.

Amidst the chaos, survivors were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, while the building itself succumbed to the ferocious blaze, leaving behind a charred shell. The structure, comprising two interconnected blocks, was a residential complex with 12 rooms available for rent. Reports indicated that the courtyard was commonly used for the sale and repair of electric bicycles.
