Abu Dhabi is once again at the forefront of cultural preservation with the launch of the Fourth Manuscripts Conference and Exhibition, held at the Cultural Foundation on 8 and 9 October. The event, organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) in collaboration with Canada’s McGill University, spotlights the rich visual arts tradition in Arabic and Islamic manuscripts.
The 2025 edition focuses on the theme “Visual Arts in Arabic and Islamic Manuscripts: Artistic Heritage and Contemporary Influence”, bringing together international scholars, researchers, and art enthusiasts. Attendees include experts in art history, Islamic studies, cultural preservation, and digital humanities, all exploring how centuries-old manuscripts continue to shape contemporary artistic expression.

Beyond the academic discourse, the conference emphasizes public engagement and education. Visitors can experience the Golden Ink: A Journey through Arabic and Islamic Manuscripts exhibition, a travelling showcase celebrating the beauty, detail, and global impact of these manuscripts. Students and young artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from the intricate designs, calligraphy, and illustrations that define this heritage.
The conference provides a platform for multidisciplinary dialogue, connecting experts, artists, and educational institutions. It not only highlights the historical and aesthetic significance of manuscripts but also examines their enduring influence on modern creativity. This initiative strengthens Abu Dhabi’s position as a hub for cultural exchange and intellectual exploration on the global stage.
With events like the Manuscripts Conference, DCT Abu Dhabi continues its mission to preserve and promote Arabic and Islamic heritage, fostering cross-generational engagement and inspiring a deeper appreciation for the region’s artistic and cultural legacy.
