The judging committee for the 2025 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity has been officially announced, showcasing a diverse group of members from six countries, each specializing in various fields such as diplomacy, economics, science, peacebuilding, and law. This committee aims to uphold the principles of the award, which seeks to recognize individuals and organizations committed to promoting solidarity, integrity, fairness, and optimism, thereby fostering peaceful coexistence globally.

Oversighted by the award’s Secretary-General, Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, the committee includes notable figures such as His Excellency Macky Sall, the former President of Senegal; His Excellency José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, former Prime Minister of Spain; Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization; His Eminence Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences; and the Right Honourable Patricia Scotland, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and King’s Council.
This independent committee of experts will evaluate nominations for the sixth edition of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, an international humanitarian prize celebrating contributions from individuals and organizations across all backgrounds. The award is named in honor of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE, to commemorate his enduring legacy, leadership, and humanitarian contributions that continue to influence the world.
Established in 2019 after the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity by His Holiness Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, and His Eminence Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, the award has recognized honorees from eleven countries to date. These recipients have made significant strides in various humanitarian efforts, including healthcare, education, community development, refugee resettlement, and empowering women and youth. The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity includes a financial prize of $1 million, further incentivizing humanitarian work globally.
The judging committee will be responsible for selecting the recipients for the 2025 award, which will be announced during a ceremony in February 2025. This event will coincide with the International Day of Human Fraternity, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2020, marking the anniversary of the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity by Pope Francis and Grand Imam Al-Tayeb.
Nominations for the 2025 Zayed Award can be submitted until October 31, 2024, The committee's work highlights a continued commitment to fostering dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among different cultures and communities, reinforcing the ideals of human fraternity in today’s world.
