Google is in a big court case in the United States. The government says Google has too much power in online search. If the court agrees, Google might have to sell its Chrome web browser.
Yahoo has said it wants to buy Chrome if that happens. A top Yahoo leader, Brian Provost, said this in court. He said Chrome may cost a lot of money—maybe tens of billions of dollars.

Yahoo is not the only one who wants Chrome. People from OpenAI and Perplexity also said they are interested in buying it. DuckDuckGo was also asked about it but said they don’t have enough money.
Yahoo says many people search the web using the browser’s address bar. That’s why browsers are very important. Provost said Yahoo has already started working on making its own browser last year. But buying an old one like Chrome will be quicker.
He also said Chrome is the most important tool on the internet. If Yahoo buys Chrome, its small search market share (3%) could grow a lot.
Yahoo’s parent company, Apollo Global Management, is ready to give money to help buy Chrome.
If Google is forced to sell Chrome, it may also have to give up Chromium. Chromium is the free base software behind Chrome. Other browsers like Microsoft Edge, Arc, Opera, and Firefox also use it.
Google does not want to sell Chromium. They say a new owner may not take care of it well or may start charging people for it. This could break many browsers around the world.
But the U.S. government says Google has too much power. They worry this power could affect new technology like smart AI tools.
Right now, Chrome is not for sale. But many companies are watching closely in case it is.
