On 24/07/2025, the world lost one of the greatest wrestling stars of all time. Hulk Hogan died at the age of 71. He was famous for his strong personality, big matches, and love from fans all over the world. Hogan was more than just a wrestler—he was a hero to many. His death has made fans, other wrestlers, and sports lovers very sad.
This article tells the story of Hulk Hogan’s life, career, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Hulk Hogan’s real name was Terry Eugene Bollea. He was born on August 11, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia, and grew up in Tampa, Florida. As a young man, he loved both music and wrestling. He played the bass guitar in bands before becoming a professional wrestler.
He started wrestling in the late 1970s. He was trained by Hiro Matsuda, a well-known coach. At first, he used different names in the ring, but later he became known as Hulk Hogan. His big body, mustache, and powerful wrestling moves made him stand out from others.
In the 1980s, Hulk Hogan joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), now called WWE. He became super famous after winning against The Iron Sheik in 1984 to become the WWF Champion. That win started something huge called “Hulkamania.”
Hulk Hogan had fun sayings like “Say your prayers and eat your vitamins”, and his entrance song, “Real American,” became iconic. He fought in big events like WrestleMania III, where he battled André the Giant in front of over 93,000 fans—one of the biggest crowds ever in wrestling.
Hogan didn’t just stay in wrestling. He also acted in movies, appeared in cartoons and video games, and went on TV shows. Everyone knew who Hulk Hogan was—even people who didn’t watch wrestling.
In the 1990s, Hulk Hogan surprised everyone by joining World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Fans were shocked when he became a villain, or "heel", and started a group called the New World Order (nWo) with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall in 1996.
He changed his look, wore black and white, and called himself “Hollywood Hogan.” This new version of Hulk Hogan brought new excitement to wrestling and helped WCW compete with WWE during a time called the Monday Night Wars. Hogan proved he could change and still be popular.
In the early 2000s, Hogan came back to WWE. One of his most famous matches during this time was against The Rock at WrestleMania X8. Even though he was older and not as fast, the crowd loved him.
In 2005, he was added to the WWE Hall of Fame to honor everything he had done in his wrestling career. He made special appearances in WWE shows, keeping the memory of Hulkamania alive for young fans.
Outside the ring, Hulk Hogan had many personal problems. He went through a very public divorce, faced legal problems, and had a famous court case against Gawker Media for sharing private videos. Even though he faced hard times, Hogan worked to fix his image and stayed in the spotlight.
He also had many health problems because of all the years he spent wrestling. He had to get many surgeries, especially on his back and knees. Still, he often spoke to fans with positive words and stayed strong.
Hulk Hogan’s death has deeply touched people all over the world. Many wrestlers say he was the reason they wanted to wrestle. Fans say he made wrestling fun and exciting to watch. Without Hulk Hogan, wrestling might never have become so popular.
His impact was huge. He helped wrestling become part of mainstream entertainment. His image was everywhere—on toys, posters, lunchboxes, and more. Hulk Hogan made wrestling something that families and kids loved.
