A woman was rescued alive from the broken parts of a hotel in Myanmar, officials said on Monday. This gave a small hope to people, as rescuers continued searching for more survivors. The powerful earthquake that hit three days ago has killed around 1,700 people in Myanmar and also caused damage in Thailand.

The woman was trapped for 60 hours under the Great Wall Hotel in Mandalay, a city close to the earthquake center. Rescue teams from China, Russia, and Myanmar worked together for five hours to pull her out safely. The Chinese embassy shared on Facebook that she is in stable condition.

The earthquake had a 7.7 magnitude and hit Myanmar on Friday. It caused mass destruction in Myanmar and also affected Thailand. In Bangkok, Thailand’s capital city, emergency teams are still searching for 76 people buried under a fallen skyscraper that was being built. After three days, hope is running out, and rescuers fear they may find more dead bodies. Thailand’s death count was 18 on Sunday.

In Myanmar, at least 1,700 people have died, according to government reports. However, the Wall Street Journal reported that the real number might be 2,028. was unable to confirm this number. is sending help to 23,000 survivors in the central part of Myanmar.

"Our teams in Mandalay are working hard to help people, even though they are also in pain from the disaster," said Noriko Takagi, a official in Myanmar. She said Myanmar needs help from the whole world because the destruction is huge.

Many countries are sending help. India, China, and Thailand have sent relief materials and rescue teams. Malaysia, Singapore, and Russia have also sent aid workers and supplies. The United States has promised $2 million in help through Myanmar-based aid groups. The USAID team is also going to Myanmar to assist, but the agency itself is facing budget cuts under the Trump government.

The earthquake disaster has made things even worse for Myanmar, a country already suffering from war. Since the 2021 military coup, Myanmar has been in a civil war after the army removed the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi. Even after the earthquake, there are reports that the military is still bombing villages.

Singapore’s foreign minister has asked for a stop to fighting, so that relief efforts can continue without trouble. The earthquake has destroyed bridges, roads, airports, and railway lines, making it hard to send help. Myanmar, a country with 55 million people, was already facing economic problems, a weak health system, and millions of people forced to leave their homes. Now, the earthquake has made life even harder, and global help is needed urgently.
