Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran’s last shah, has called on Donald Trump to stand firmly with the Iranian people after the former U.S. president said that a change of power in Iran would be “the best thing.”
Addressing journalists at the Munich Security Conference, Pahlavi declared that it was “time to end the Islamic Republic,” arguing that sustained international pressure could hasten a turning point for Iranians demanding political change. He cautioned that further loss of life is likely if democratic nations “stand by and watch” without taking action.
Iran continues to face heightened global scrutiny amid renewed U.S. pressure over its nuclear programme and ongoing nationwide protests against the government. Demonstrations were also held in Munich during the conference, where opposition groups gathered to denounce Tehran’s violent suppression of dissent.
According to human rights monitors, thousands of people have been killed during recent waves of protests, highlighting the depth of unrest and intensifying calls for international intervention as Iran navigates one of its most turbulent periods in decades.
