A shooting broke out Monday afternoon inside the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, during a high school hockey game, resulting in multiple fatalities and critical injuries, authorities have confirmed.
Police say the suspected shooter died from an apparent self‑inflicted gunshot wound at the scene after opening fire in the crowded rink, which was filled with players, parents, and spectators. Officials are treating the incident as a targeted attack rooted in a family dispute.
Emergency responders rushed to the arena following reports of gunfire, tending to injured spectators and team supporters as chaos erupted during the afternoon event. At least two people were killed before the suspect’s death, and three others were critically injured and hospitalized, law enforcement said.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims, but police described the scene as chaotic, with players and fans seeking cover and fleeing as gunshots were fired. Local officials and community leaders have since expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and pledged support for those affected as investigations continue.
