The United States military has carried out a deadly strike on a vessel in the Caribbean Sea, killing three people on board, officials said.
US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) confirmed that its forces conducted a lethal strike on the boat, describing those killed as suspected drug traffickers, though no independent proof has been provided.
SOUTHCOM released a video showing the boat exploding and engulfed in flames following the strike.
This attack is part of a series of US military operations against suspected drug-smuggling boats in international waters of the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean that began in September 2025.
According to independent tallies, the US has carried out at least 38 maritime strikes, killing at least 133 people in total.
Earlier this week, US forces struck another vessel in the eastern Pacific, killing two people and leaving one survivor. SOUTHCOM reported that the US Coast Guard had been notified to rescue the survivor.
President Donald Trump has described these operations as part of an “armed conflict” with Latin American drug cartels, defending the attacks as necessary to stop the flow of illegal drugs to the United States.
However, legal experts and human rights advocates have raised concerns, warning that these strikes in international waters may violate international law and could amount to extrajudicial killings without due process.
