UAE-Germany Ties Strengthen with Al Jaber’s Strategic Visit

In a significant diplomatic move, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, recently conducted an official working visit to Germany, highlighting the deep-rooted and growing partnership between the two nations.

During his visit, Dr. Al Jaber held high-level meetings with key German officials, including Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katharina Reiche, Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder, and Dr. Levin Holle, Director-General for Economic, Financial and Climate Policy at the Federal Chancellery. The discussions, attended by UAE representatives Lana Nusseibeh and Ambassador Ahmed Al Attar, underscored a shared vision for sustainable economic growth and technological advancement.

Expanding Industry and Energy Cooperation

Dr. Al Jaber’s meeting with Chancellor Merz focused on broadening cooperation across industry, energy, renewable energy, and advanced technology. Both sides explored avenues to promote joint investments, enhance sustainable economic ties, and strengthen integration at local, regional, and global levels.

In discussions with Minister Reiche, emphasis was placed on industrial partnerships, advanced manufacturing, supply chain innovation, and energy transition initiatives, including green hydrogen projects. These collaborations aim to enhance regional competitiveness and foster innovation in both nations.

Sustainable Transport and Smart Mobility

Meetings with Minister Schnieder highlighted opportunities for collaboration in sustainable transport, including smart mobility solutions, electric vehicles, and integrated supply chains. Exchange of expertise in digital technologies and public transport systems was also identified as a key priority to support carbon emissions reduction.

Advancing Digital Media through Technology

Dr. Al Jaber also met Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer SE, to discuss the transformative role of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence in the digital media sector, aiming to enhance capabilities and expand the digital ecosystem.

Trade Growth Reflects Strong Bilateral Relations

Bilateral non-oil trade between the UAE and Germany continues to grow steadily. In 2024, trade reached AED 49.9 billion, marking a 3.9% increase, and the first half of 2025 saw a 19% rise, totaling nearly AED 27.6 billion. UAE exports surged by 110%, imports rose 15%, and re-exports increased by approximately 10%, reflecting dynamic economic collaboration.

The visit highlights a shared commitment to deepen strategic cooperation across multiple sectors, paving the way for sustained growth and innovation between the UAE and Germany.
