UAE to Launch First Passenger Rail Network by 2026

The UAE is preparing for a historic shift in transportation as Etihad Rail partners with global rail operator Keolis to launch the nation’s first passenger rail services, scheduled to begin in 2026. The announcement came during Global Rail 2025 in Abu Dhabi, highlighting the country’s ambition to redefine travel across its major cities.

The joint venture combines Etihad Rail’s extensive infrastructure with Keolis’ expertise in managing passenger networks across 13 countries. This collaboration is expected to deliver a modern, efficient, and passenger-centric experience that will set new standards for rail travel in the Emirates.

Transforming Travel Across the Emirates

Once operational, the passenger rail will span the UAE’s national railway network, covering 900 km from Ghuwaifat on the Saudi border to Fujairah on the east coast. While the network currently handles freight, the addition of passenger services will, for the first time, provide residents and visitors with a fast, safe, and environmentally friendly way to travel between major cities.
