The United Arab Emirates is taking major steps to strengthen its tourism sector with several new luxury projects across the country. These initiatives are aimed at attracting more international visitors and boosting the overall economy. From world-class resorts to cultural districts and unique parks, the UAE is positioning itself as a top global tourist destination.
One of the most high-profile projects is the Disney Theme Park Resort on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island. This will be the first new Disney destination in almost ten years and the seventh Disney park worldwide. Scheduled to open in 2025, the project is expected to attract millions of tourists and create numerous job opportunities. Disney Yas Island will offer a mix of thrilling rides, family-friendly attractions, and immersive experiences, making it a must-visit destination in the region.
Abu Dhabi is also rapidly developing the Saadiyat Cultural District, which will include several landmark museums. Among these are the Zayed National Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and the teamLab Phenomena digital art museum. These projects highlight the UAE’s commitment to promoting arts, culture, and history while providing visitors with unique experiences that combine education and entertainment.
The capital city is also opening the Butterfly Gardens, the UAE’s first immersive butterfly sanctuary. The facility will house over 10,000 butterflies in climate-controlled domes, offering an extraordinary experience for families and nature enthusiasts. Visitors will be able to explore the beautiful gardens, observe butterflies up close, and learn about their life cycles and habitats.
Meanwhile, Dubai is making waves with the Therme Dubai wellness resort and interactive park in Zabeel Park. Set to open in 2028, it will be the largest of its kind in the world and the first in the Middle East. Covering 500,000 square feet, the resort will feature three 18-meter waterfalls, large indoor and terrace pools, and a Michelin-star restaurant. Designed to host up to 1.7 million visitors annually, Therme Dubai promises a combination of relaxation, wellness, and interactive experiences for all age groups.
In addition to large-scale attractions, Dubai is also working on adventure and sports projects like the Mushrif Hub in Mushrif National Park. This includes the emirate’s longest mountain bike track, providing outdoor enthusiasts with exciting recreational opportunities.
Other emirates are also joining the tourism expansion. Sharjah, through the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), is developing the Kalba Rock Art Centre, home to the UAE’s largest and richest rock-art location. Sharjah is also developing the Kalba Beach project and the Nomad hiking trails, offering visitors cultural, historical, and natural experiences.
Umm Al Quwain is advancing with the Downtown Umm Al Quwain waterfront project, which will cover 25 million square feet and feature 11 kilometers of coastline. The emirate is also launching eco-friendly tourism projects like Luxeglamp in its Mangrove Reserve, along with the second phase of the Creek Waterfront development. These initiatives are designed to combine luxury tourism with sustainability and environmental awareness.
Ras Al Khaimah continues to strengthen its hospitality sector by opening new luxury hotels on Al Marjan Island. The developments include NH Collection, Fairmont, Taj Wellington Mews, and a Four Seasons resort. Among these, the Wynn Al Marjan Island resort is a highlight, offering 1,500 rooms, extensive pools and lagoons, and lush tropical landscapes over 3.6 hectares. These projects aim to position Ras Al Khaimah as a luxury tourism hub in the region.
In Fujairah, the Minor Hotels hospitality group has signed the Avani+ Fujairah Resort. This beachfront property will feature 232 rooms and 16 villas overlooking the Gulf of Oman. Scheduled to open in 2028, the resort promises a mix of relaxation, luxury, and scenic beauty, attracting both domestic and international travelers.
Overall, the UAE’s tourism expansion demonstrates the country’s commitment to economic growth and global competitiveness. By combining luxury resorts, cultural attractions, wellness destinations, and eco-friendly projects, the UAE is creating a diverse tourism ecosystem that caters to families, adventure seekers, culture enthusiasts, and international tourists alike.
Experts believe that these projects will not only attract more visitors but also generate employment opportunities and contribute significantly to the UAE’s GDP. The country’s focus on high-quality tourism infrastructure and unique experiences ensures that it remains a preferred destination for travelers from around the world.
With these landmark projects, the UAE is set to redefine luxury tourism in the Middle East. From Disney adventures in Abu Dhabi to wellness and cultural experiences in Dubai, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah, there is something for every type of traveler. Visitors can look forward to world-class attractions, immersive experiences, and unforgettable memories in the coming years.
The UAE’s tourism sector is clearly on an ambitious path, and these developments will play a key role in shaping the country’s reputation as a global hub for luxury and leisure.
