Nepali climber Binod Babu Bastakoti and Kenyan climber Cheruiyot Kirui, both presumed missing, have been tragically found dead near the summit of Mount Everest. This grim confirmation was relayed by officials stationed at the Everest Base Camp. Their discovery came after days of intense search efforts in the treacherous mountain terrain.
Binod Babu Bastakoti met his untimely demise while descending from Camp IV, succumbing to the perils of high altitude. On the other hand, Cheruiyot Kirui's lifeless body was located by rescuers from the Seven Summit Treks, mere meters below the towering summit of the world's highest peak.
Details emerged indicating that Binod Babu Bastakoti experienced severe altitude sickness while descending from the summit, ultimately proving fatal at an altitude of approximately 8,300 meters. Meanwhile, Cheruiyot Kirui, attempting the Everest ascent without supplemental oxygen, vanished from radio contact near Bishop Rock.

Adding to the distressing turn of events, Nawang Sherpa, the guide accompanying Cheruiyot Kirui, remains unaccounted for. The last communication from Nawang Sherpa suggested that Kirui had refused to descend despite consuming bottled oxygen and displaying erratic behavior.
Cheruiyot Kirui, known for his remarkable feats in mountaineering, had previously achieved acclaim as the first African to conquer a peak above 8,000 meters without supplementary oxygen, scaling Mt. Manaslu in 2023. His climbing repertoire included multiple speed ascents of Mt. Kilimanjaro and over 20 successful summits of Mt. Kenya, setting records along the way.
In a separate yet noteworthy development, Pakistani mountaineer Sirbaz Khan recently achieved the remarkable feat of ascending Mount Everest without the aid of supplementary oxygen. Khan's achievement solidified his status as only the second Pakistani to accomplish this remarkable feat on the world's highest peak.
