US Plans $6B Arms Sale to Israel Amid Gaza Conflict Surge

The Trump administration has announced plans to sell nearly $6 billion in advanced military equipment to Israel, signaling a significant show of support as the conflict in Gaza intensifies. The proposed deal comes amid mounting international criticism of Israel’s military operations and stalled US-led efforts to broker peace.

The package includes $3.8 billion for 30 AH-64 Apache helicopters—nearly doubling Israel’s current fleet—and $1.9 billion for 3,200 infantry fighting vehicles for the Israeli army. Officials say the deliveries would likely take two to three years or longer.

The announcement follows Israel’s recent military offensive in Gaza, including targeted strikes on Hamas leadership in Doha, Qatar, which drew condemnation from several Middle Eastern allies. While the Biden administration had previously paused shipments of 2,000-pound bombs over concerns of civilian casualties, Trump lifted that hold after taking office in January.

This year alone, the Trump administration has already approved about $12 billion in military assistance to Israel. Recent approvals included a $500 million arms sale in June to supply precision bomb guidance kits.

International responses have been critical. The U.K. recently barred Israeli officials from its largest arms fair and suspended some arms exports over humanitarian concerns. Turkey has closed its airspace to Israeli military cargo, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned Israel’s attacks on Gaza as disproportionate.

Despite the growing global backlash, the US continues to prioritize strategic military support to Israel. The proposed sale comes as Trump prepares to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss broader defense deals, including Boeing aircraft and F-16 fighter jets.
