Trump Declares Nobel-Worthy Contribution to India-Pakistan Resolution

In a bold assertion, US President Donald Trump has claimed credit for resolving the tensions between India and Pakistan. During a gathering at the White House with energy sector leaders, Trump noted that he believes no individual in history is more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize than himself. He criticized former President Barack Obama for accepting the award without achieving meaningful diplomatic victories.

Trump reiterated his assertion that eight aircraft were downed during the recent India-Pakistan conflict from last May, although he did not clarify which side was responsible. He also highlighted his accomplishments in addressing eight long-running wars during his tenure, some lasting over three decades, while emphasizing his part in averting an escalation between the two nuclear-armed nations.

He cited that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, who met with him last year, acknowledged his contributions in saving countless lives by resolving the hostilities. This marks the second occasion within a few days that Trump has claimed he played a key role in alleviating the tensions between the two countries, a narrative he has reiterated since May 10, when he brokered a "full and immediate" ceasefire after American intervention.

The conflict erupted in early May 2025, initiated by India's Operation Sindoor targeting terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, responding to a tragic attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives. After several days of strikes, both nations agreed to halt the fighting, though India contends there was no external mediation involved.

Trump maintained that his contributions to peace are unmatched, delivering criticism towards Obama for gaining the Nobel Prize shortly after taking office in 2009 without significant achievements warranting it. He believes that Nobel honors should recognize peace initiatives that prevent major wars, claiming to have saved tens of millions.

He shared a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who allegedly expressed surprise at the swift resolution of two long-lasting conflicts that had long eluded Russia.

Furthermore, Trump referenced Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize last year to him. He mentioned her upcoming visit to Washington to express her gratitude, valuing her support. Trump speculated that the Nobel Committee in Norway must regret not bestowing the honor upon him last year.
