Indian-Origin Man Passes Away After Lengthy ER Wait in Canada

A tragedy unfolded when a 44-year-old Indian-origin man succumbed to a suspected cardiac arrest following an excruciating wait at an Edmonton, Canada hospital. This incident raises alarming concerns regarding emergency healthcare delays.

Prashant Sreekumar, a dedicated father of three, was rushed to the emergency room on December 22 after suffering severe chest pain at his workplace. A client helped him reach the facility, where he was triaged and instructed to wait.

His family stated that he was in severe distress, continuously informing medical staff about his intolerable pain. His father, Kumar Sreekumar, who arrived shortly after, noted his son's pain was unbearable.

Medical professionals performed an electrocardiogram (ECG) to evaluate his heart health. They later advised the family that there were no critical issues detected and asked Prashant to stay in the waiting area.

As time dragged on, his condition deteriorated. Reports indicated rising blood pressure, and he was given Tylenol for pain relief. However, urgent treatment was not provided, and he remained in the emergency department for over eight hours.

Eventually, Prashant was called into the treatment area. Moments after taking a seat, he stood up, clutched his chest, and fell to the floor.

Hospital personnel quickly attempted to revive him, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead, attributed to a cardiac arrest.

Prashant Sreekumar leaves behind his wife and three children, aged three, 10, and 14.

The hospital's healthcare organization conveyed condolences to the bereaved family, confirming that the case is under review by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Officials emphasized that patient safety is paramount but refrained from commenting on specifics during the ongoing investigation.
