Fatty liver has become more common today, even among young people. Many of us work long hours, eat fast food, and do not pay attention to what we put in our bodies. This can slowly harm the liver, which is one of the most important organs in our body. The liver helps clean our blood, digest food, and store energy. When extra fat starts collecting in the liver, it can lead to health problems. But the good news is that this condition can be improved by making simple changes in diet.
Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a well-known gastroenterologist who trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford, shared on social media a list of 10 foods that can naturally help heal and protect the liver. He explained that eating the right foods can lower inflammation, remove toxins, and reduce extra fat stored in the liver. His message says that healthy food is one of the best medicines.
The first food he recommends is extra virgin olive oil. This oil contains healthy fats and antioxidants that protect the liver and help control blood sugar. It can be used in cooking or salad dressing. Next on the list are berries like blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. These fruits are rich in antioxidants that protect liver cells.
Avocados are also helpful because they have healthy fats and fibre that help remove toxins and lower bad cholesterol. Walnuts are another good choice. Just a handful a day gives omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to reduce swelling in the liver. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower help the body get rid of harmful chemicals.
Oats are recommended because they contain fibre that helps in digestion and prevents fat from building up in the liver. Green tea, especially when taken daily, can reduce liver inflammation. Coffee is also useful as it lowers liver enzyme levels and protects against fatty liver disease. People who love coffee can feel happy about this.
For protein, Dr. Sethi suggests tofu or tempeh instead of red meat. These plant-based proteins are lighter on the liver. The last food on the list is garlic. Garlic activates liver enzymes which help clean the liver and improve fat burning in the body.
Dr. Sethi’s advice shows that small daily changes in food habits can make a big difference. Fatty liver does not only depend on medicine; it depends on lifestyle. Eating healthy, exercising regularly, and reducing sugary and fried foods can help the liver recover. Many doctors also say that reducing alcohol and controlling weight are important steps.
People should remember that every person’s health condition is different. Anyone trying to follow these changes should talk to a doctor if they have a serious medical condition. But overall, eating natural, fresh, and less processed food can support long-term liver health.
This message is a reminder that the liver works silently every day, and it is our responsibility to take care of it. Choosing healthier foods is one of the most powerful ways to protect our body for life.
