The much-awaited Tamil movie Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR, is set to hit theaters on June 5, 2025. The film’s trailer was recently released, creating a lot of excitement among fans. Directed by the famous filmmaker Mani Ratnam, this movie brings back the special team of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, who last worked together in the classic film Nayakan (1987).

Thug Life is produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International and Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. The movie will be released by Red Giant Movies.

The trailer shows a strong bond between Kamal Haasan’s and Silambarasan TR’s characters, which feels like a father and son relationship. Kamal Haasan’s character thanks Silambarasan for saving his life and says, “We both will be together till the end. Our destinies were written to be one.”

Kamal Haasan plays a gangster named Rangaraya Sakthivel, who decides to share the control of his crime group with Silambarasan’s character, Amar. But soon, their relationship faces challenges, and they end up in a conflict with each other.

The movie appears to be an action-packed gangster story that takes the audience through different places around the world. The trailer also shows Kamal Haasan in a younger look using special effects.

Kamal Haasan shared that Thug Life is based on his own story idea called Amar Hai. He explained that Amar Hai means a man who is thought to be dead but is actually alive. Mani Ratnam took this idea and made it bigger for the film.

The music for the movie is composed by the well-known A R Rahman. The cinematography is done by Ravi K Chandran, and Sreekar Prasad is the editor. The first song from the film, titled Jingucha, which has lyrics written by Kamal Haasan himself, has already caught people’s attention.

Along with Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan, the film also stars Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Sanya Malhotra, Abhirami, Nasser, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Joju George. The exciting action scenes are choreographed by the famous duo Anbariv. The movie will be available in multiple languages, including Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Mani Ratnam’s previous work was the two-part film Ponniyin Selvan, which did very well at the box office. The first part came out on September 30, 2022, and the second on April 23, 2023. Kamal Haasan’s last movie was Indian 2, directed by S Shankar, which released on July 12, 2024. Though it had high expectations, it received mixed reviews and did not perform as well as expected at the box office.

Fans are eagerly waiting for Thug Life to arrive, hoping it will be a thrilling story with powerful performances from the star cast and the magic touch of Mani Ratnam.
