The Sharjah Government Communication Award (SGCA) for 2025 is now open for entries. This is a very important award given every year to people who work hard to make government communication better. SGCA was created to honour and celebrate people and organisations that make a difference in how governments talk to the public.
SGCA helps everyone understand the role of clear, honest, and innovative communication. It also makes people feel proud when their hard work is appreciated on such a big platform. The award has many categories, and this time it has announced a special call for two main categories – Best Research in Communication Sciences and Best Official Spokesperson.

This award is now in its 12th edition. Over the years, SGCA has become very popular in the UAE and also in other countries. Many experts, scholars, and government officers look forward to it every year. Winners will be announced during the 14th International Government Communication Forum (IGCF). The forum will be held on September 10 and 11, 2025, at Expo Centre Sharjah. This forum brings together communication experts from different parts of the world to share ideas and improve the way governments communicate with their people.
Best Research in Communication Sciences
This category is for people who have done original research that helps improve government communication. Research means studying something deeply to find new information or solutions. The award is open to scholars, universities, and authors who write about communication.
This category looks for research that brings new ideas, new technologies, or new methods which help the government communicate better with people. The research should not just remain on paper but should help in real-life situations. For example, research that shows how to communicate better during emergencies, or how to use social media to spread important health messages effectively, will be appreciated.
Research that talks about sustainability, innovation, and quality of life is highly encouraged. Sustainability means taking care of nature and the environment for the future. Innovation means bringing something new and useful. Quality of life means improving how people live and feel in their daily lives.
To apply for this category, scholars and researchers should:
Submit a full copy of their research.
Write a short executive summary of 250 words explaining the main points of their research in simple language.
Provide a detailed CV showing their qualifications and experience.
Attach supporting materials such as news coverage, expert reviews, and any documents that show how their research has helped governments or has been used in the real world.
The judges will check if the research is original, whether it followed ethical rules, if the methods used were correct, and how the research has helped improve communication strategies in government. Research that is endorsed by universities or recognised widely will get preference.
Best Official Spokesperson
This is a very special category. It is for government employees who speak to the public on behalf of their departments. A spokesperson is someone who explains the government’s decisions and answers questions from the media and public. This is a very important job because it builds trust between people and the government.
The Best Official Spokesperson award will go to a person who has shown great communication skills. They should have a strong media presence, meaning people know them and listen to them. They should also have the ability to handle tough situations and answer difficult questions calmly and clearly.
The person should show that they are honest, credible, and ready to give accurate information, especially during emergencies or critical times. For example, during health emergencies, natural disasters, or big government announcements, spokespersons play a key role in keeping everyone informed and calm.
Nominees for this award should:
Submit a detailed 1,000-word narrative explaining what they have achieved as a spokesperson. This should include their special contributions and the impact of their work.
Write a short executive summary of 250 words highlighting their main achievements.
Provide their CV showing their career journey and experience.
Attach letters of recommendation from senior officers or experts.
Include samples of their media work, such as videos, articles, interviews, or social media posts where they spoke on behalf of the government.
Provide data and analytics that show how well the public engaged with their messages or how wide their reach was in the media.
To make their application stronger, nominees can also attach:
Case studies showing how they managed communication campaigns successfully.
Logs of media appearances, showing when and where they spoke.
Examples of using innovative ways to communicate, such as using social media creatively or explaining difficult information in simple language for the public.
Why SGCA is Important
The Sharjah Government Communication Award is not just an award. It is a way to recognise and celebrate the efforts of people who make communication clear, simple, and powerful. Good communication builds trust between people and the government. It also helps during emergencies because the public knows they will get the right information at the right time.
How to Apply
The award is open to people and institutions from all over the world. However, the work submitted must be done or updated in the last two years. This ensures that only fresh and relevant work is considered. All entries should meet the SGCA’s eligibility criteria and should include all documents mentioned for each category.
The last date to submit entries is July 24, 2025. Entries can be submitted through the official SGCA portal online.
SGCA 2025 is an amazing opportunity for researchers and spokespersons who are passionate about communication. If you have done good research or if you are a spokesperson who works hard to keep people informed, you should apply for this award. Winning the SGCA will not only make you feel proud but will also inspire others to work hard to improve communication in their countries.
This year’s SGCA promises to be grand and meaningful, honouring those who use the power of words to connect, educate, and build a better society.
