Let’s understand in detail what this new housing grant means, who will benefit from it, and why it’s such an important step for families in Sharjah.
What Is This Housing Grant About?
The grant is part of Sharjah’s long-standing commitment to support its people and improve their living conditions. The housing support is being offered as a grant, which means the families do not have to pay it back. This financial help is especially focused on people who are living in difficult conditions and need urgent help.
These families will receive ready-built government houses, which means the houses are already constructed and will be handed over to them without any construction delay. The aim is to quickly move people from unsafe or uncomfortable living conditions into proper homes.
Who Are the Beneficiaries?
A total of 431 families will benefit from this housing grant. These are families who are facing real housing problems. They fall under one of four categories:
1. Families Living in Rented Houses
There are 133 families who are currently living in rented homes. Many of them struggle each month to pay rent. Some of them may not have a stable income, and rising rent prices can make life even harder. By receiving a government house, these families will no longer need to pay rent, which will give them more financial stability and peace of mind.
2. Families Living in Overcrowded Conditions
A total of 201 families are living in overcrowded homes with relatives. In many cases, large extended families are squeezed into small apartments or houses, making it difficult for everyone to live comfortably. These crowded conditions can also affect children’s education, health, and emotional well-being. Getting a separate home will give these families more space, privacy, and comfort.
3. Families Living in Inherited Homes
Another group of 61 families are currently living in inherited houses. These homes are often very old and may not be in good condition. In many cases, the houses are shared between multiple family members, which can lead to disagreements or lack of proper maintenance. These families will now get a separate government house, which will be safer and more suitable for modern living.
4. Families Living in Unsafe or Old Structures
There are also 36 families who live in old houses that are no longer structurally safe. These houses may have weak walls, broken ceilings, or problems with electricity and water. In some cases, the buildings may be at risk of collapsing. Moving these families into strong and safe government housing is an urgent step to protect their lives and health.
Why Is This Initiative Important?
This housing support is not just about providing buildings. It is about offering dignity, safety, and stability to people who are struggling. A safe home can change a family’s life completely. It allows children to grow up in a secure place, gives parents peace of mind, and helps everyone feel more connected to their community.
This initiative also reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, who always puts the well-being of Sharjah’s citizens at the center of government policies. By focusing on urgent cases, the government is showing that it listens to people’s problems and responds quickly when help is needed.
How the Announcement Was Made
The approval of this housing support was announced by Eng. Khalid bin Butti Al Muhairi, the Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Housing. He made the announcement during a live call on the “Direct Line” radio programme, which is broadcast by the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority.
This program is known for being a platform where the public can directly connect with government officials. People often call in to ask questions or raise concerns. By making the announcement on this show, the Sharjah government shows how transparent and people-focused it is.
What Will Beneficiaries Receive?
All families selected under this batch will receive ready-built government housing units. These homes are designed to meet modern standards. They are safe, clean, and well-constructed. The houses are located in planned neighborhoods with proper infrastructure, like paved roads, electricity, water connections, schools, mosques, and parks nearby.
The idea is not just to give a house but to provide a complete living environment that helps families thrive.
Sharjah’s Larger Vision for Housing
This announcement is part of Sharjah’s wider vision to ensure that every citizen has access to decent housing. Over the years, the Sharjah Department of Housing has launched many similar initiatives to support families, widows, orphans, and people with limited income.
Housing support in Sharjah comes in many forms—grants, loans, renovations, and rebuilding. The current grant is one of the largest in terms of financial value and number of beneficiaries. It shows that the Sharjah government is serious about solving housing problems and wants to improve the quality of life for everyone.
This new batch of housing grants is a lifeline for 431 families in Sharjah. With AED 335 million being invested in this initiative, the Sharjah government is taking a big step to ensure that no family is left behind when it comes to safe housing.
Whether someone is struggling to pay rent, living in overcrowded spaces, staying in an old family home, or trying to survive in an unsafe building—help is on the way. Thanks to the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi and the efforts of the Sharjah Department of Housing, hundreds of families will soon have a new place to call home.
This decision brings not just houses, but hope, relief, and a better future for the people of Sharjah.
