In a world where noise often drowns meaning, Sethunath Viswanathan has spent twenty-five years teaching people how to listen — not just to music, but to themselves. A performer, composer, and educator whose life is rooted in melody and mindfulness, he has turned his passion into purpose, shaping generations through the language of song.

From his early days at RLV College of Music and Fine Arts, Tripunithura, where he earned his Ganabhooshanam, BA, and MA in Music, to his research-driven MPhil at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, Sethunath’s journey has always balanced discipline with devotion. His research on the impact of music on personality laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong exploration of how rhythm can heal, elevate, and transform human behavior.

After starting his career as a lecturer in Kerala, his calling soon transcended borders. Teaching and performing across India, Malaysia, and Qatar, he absorbed cultures, sounds, and stories that later found their way into his compositions. Today, he continues that journey as a music teacher at Indian School Al Ain, guiding students to see music not merely as performance, but as self-expression and connection.

He is also an approved teacher at Bridge Academy, mentoring international students and expanding the reach of classical Indian music into global classrooms. Beyond teaching, Sethunath served as an activity coordinator in two schools, where he pioneered community radio projects that gave young voices a platform to speak, sing, and share.

As the Head of the Carnatic Music Wing of the Indian Musicians Forum, Dubai, he curates experiences that bridge tradition and innovation. Under his guidance, festivals such as the Thyagaraja Music Festival and Swati Tirunal Music Festival have grown into vibrant celebrations of art and collaboration — spaces where both masters and students share the same stage, united by devotion to the art form.

His artistry extends beyond the classroom and stage. A versatile vocalist, Sethunath moves fluidly between Carnatic classical, light music, and film songs, and his voice has echoed through performances at Malabar Maholsavam, Karthika Tirunal Theatre, BAPS Temple Abu Dhabi, and Shirdi Sai Baba Temple Johor Bahru. His renditions have also graced Asianet, Doordarshan, Jeevan TV, N TV, and All India Radio Kochi, earning him admiration for both precision and soul.

Collaborating with icons such as Smt. Kala Vijayan (daughter of Kalamandalam Kalyanikutti Amma) and Kalamandalam Mani, he has lent his voice to classical dance performances that blend sound and movement into a single heartbeat. His creative spirit also thrives in composition — with nearly 50 original songs that weave classical depth with contemporary resonance.

But perhaps his most enduring contribution lies in research and reflection. Building upon his MPhil pilot study on the benefits of graded Carnatic music study, he now explores how structured musical training enhances cognitive, emotional, and personality development — turning centuries-old wisdom into modern educational science.

An active mentor and judge at platforms such as Kerala District and Sub-District Festivals, Cochin University, MG University, and KSC Abu Dhabi, Sethunath continues to shape the next generation of musicians with the same care his Gurus once offered him. Among those Gurus are legends like Sri Mavelikkara P. Subramaniam, Sri Ponkunnam Ramachandran, Sri N. P. Ramaswami, Dr. Malini Hariharan, Dr. G. Bhuvaneswari, and Sri Thamarakkad Govindan Namboodiri, whose guidance still echoes in his teaching today.

Through his YouTube channel A Sethunath Viswa, he continues to share the joy of music with audiences worldwide — proving that art, when shared with purpose, becomes eternal.

For Sethunath Viswanathan, music is not just a career; it is consciousness in motion — a way of living that teaches patience, empathy, and grace. Every class, every concert, every composition adds one more note to the lifelong symphony he is creating — a symphony that reminds the world that music, at its heart, is humanity in harmony.
