SAG Awards 2026: Spotlight on Premier Film and TV Nominations Ahead of Oscars

The Screen Actors Guild Awards, which underwent a rebranding in January 2025, have unveiled their nominations for 2026, emphasizing films and television shows poised to make a mark at the forthcoming Academy Awards. These awards are particularly significant as their winners are determined by SAG-AFTRA members, the largest voting bloc for the Oscars.

Leading the charge in the Best Movie Cast category are two noteworthy films vying for glory alongside the Shakespeare-themed drama Hamnet, the sports-centric Marty Supreme, and the Gothic sci-fi entry Frankenstein.

In the individual acting categories, Leonardo DiCaprio has received a nod for his portrayal of Bob in One Battle After Another, while Michael B. Jordan has garnered attention for his remarkable dual roles as twin brothers Smoke and Stack Moore in Sinners. Jessie Buckley also stands out with her nomination for her role as Agnes Hathaway in Hamnet, marking her as one of the top contenders this awards season.

On the television front, the dark comedy The White Lotus faces stiff competition from the medical drama The Pitt and the psychological thriller Severance. Not to be overlooked, the culinary comedy The Bear will contend against The Studio, Abbott Elementary, and Hacks. The critically acclaimed limited series Adolescence has also earned several nominations, further underscoring its success.

The awards ceremony is set to take place on March 1, 2026, and will be available for live streaming on Netflix, giving global audiences the chance to witness the announcement of winners.

Last year’s live nomination announcement was scrapped due to the tragic wildfires in Los Angeles, with the nominations instead disclosed online. Sean Astin, President of SAG-AFTRA, used the occasion to acknowledge the anniversary of the wildfires and their effects on the local community.

The SAG Awards remain a crucial indicator for Oscar forecasts and celebrate outstanding performances in film and television.
