Imran Khan’s Family Protests Alleged Jail Torture

Islamabad – Tensions escalated outside Adiala Jail as Aleema Khan, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, accused authorities of mistreating the ex-leader during his detention. Families and supporters have been visiting the prison every Tuesday for the past eight months, yet they claim repeated attempts to meet Khan have been denied.

“We are not allowed to meet Imran Khan. They are torturing him. He has been kept in illegal isolation,” Aleema Khan said, expressing the family’s growing concern about his physical and mental well-being.

The protest attracted numerous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers who voiced their fears regarding Khan’s safety and health inside the high-security prison. Authorities had deployed strict security measures to manage the demonstration, reflecting heightened political sensitivities around the former prime minister’s detention.

Limited Access Raises Concerns

The situation intensified after a rare 20-minute visit on December 2, when Khan’s sister Uzma Khanum was allowed to meet him for the first time in nearly a month. She reported that while Khan appeared physically healthy, he was under severe “psychological pressure.” According to her, Khan attributed the mental strain to Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Shortly after this visit, the government barred Uzma Khanum and other family members from future meetings, citing violations of prison rules during the interaction. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that political discussions are not permitted inside prison visits, prompting the ban.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Leaders Join the Protest

Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief Junaid Akbar Khan, joined the sit-in, signaling the party’s frustration over the restricted access despite court orders permitting visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Supporters and family members continue to demand transparency regarding Khan’s condition, while security and administrative authorities maintain tight control over the prison environment. The standoff highlights the rising tension between the ruling government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters as public scrutiny grows over the former prime minister’s detention.
