GOA – Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Deepavali with armed forces personnel aboard INS Vikrant on October 20, 2025, highlighting India’s achievements in eradicating Maoism and promoting national development. In an open letter to citizens, PM Modi said this Deepavali is “special” as lamps will now shine in many remote districts where Naxalism and Maoist terrorism have been eliminated. The Prime Minister emphasized that the eradication of Maoism is a “major achievement” for the nation, reflecting India’s commitment to peace, development, and security. PM Modi also reminded citizens that Operation Sindoor exemplifies the values of Lord Ram, demonstrating the courage to fight injustice and uphold righteousness, reinforcing India’s resolve against internal threats.
“For the first time, lamps will be lit in many districts across the country, including remote areas. These are the districts where Naxalism and Maoist terrorism have been eradicated from the root. Many individuals have abandoned the path of violence and joined the mainstream of development, expressing faith in the Constitution of our country. This is a major achievement for the nation,” PM Modi wrote. The Prime Minister’s remarks underline India’s success in transforming conflict-affected regions and strengthening law and order. Operation Sindoor, according to PM Modi, showcased the armed forces’ dedication to justice, unity, and protection of citizens, marking a historic moment in India’s internal security efforts.
The Prime Minister also urged citizens to adopt Swadeshi and fulfill their duties toward the nation. He encouraged all Indians to embrace local products, respect all languages, maintain cleanliness, prioritize health, reduce oil consumption by 10%, and practice Yoga. “All these efforts will rapidly move us towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’,” he stated. PM Modi’s appeal reflects the government’s broader agenda of self-reliance, cultural preservation, and holistic national development. Swadeshi adoption, according to the Prime Minister, is key to fostering economic growth, empowering local businesses, and ensuring sustainable development for future generations.
PM Modi also highlighted the government’s historic decision to reduce Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates, marking it as a significant achievement for citizens’ financial relief. “On the first day of Navratri, lower GST rates were implemented. During this ‘GST Bachat Utsav,’ citizens are saving thousands of crores of rupees,” he said. The Prime Minister emphasized that GST reforms and savings benefit millions across India, enabling greater economic stability and contributing to the nation’s long-term development goals.
In his letter, PM Modi further stressed India’s rising global significance, stating that amidst global crises, Bharat has become a symbol of both stability and sensitivity. He expressed confidence that India is on track to become the third-largest economy in the world in the near future. By highlighting economic reforms, national security achievements, and cultural values, PM Modi’s Deepavali message reinforced a vision of progress, resilience, and unity for all Indians.
