Technicians at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida utilized a 30-ton crane on June 28, 2024, to relocate the Orion spacecraft from the Final Assembly and System Testing (FAST) cell to the altitude chamber inside the Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building. This spacecraft is designated for the Artemis II mission, intended to orbit the Moon. During this phase, extensive leak checks and comprehensive performance verifications of the spacecraft's subsystems were conducted.
The final assembly and system testing of NASA's Orion spacecraft for the Artemis II mission involved rigorous assessments, including propulsion system leak checks and end-to-end performance evaluations of its subsystems. These critical tests were carried out to ensure the spacecraft's readiness for upcoming lunar missions.
Following the crane maneuver, the spacecraft underwent electromagnetic testing and subsequent vacuum chamber qualification tests. These tests simulate the extreme conditions of space by creating a near-vacuum environment, similar to what the spacecraft will encounter during its lunar missions.

Over the course of approximately a week, comprehensive data was gathered from the spacecraft's cabin, chamber, and environmental control and life support systems. These tests were also essential for evaluating the functionality of spacesuits under simulated space conditions.
NASA's Orion spacecraft is pivotal to the Artemis program, aiming to facilitate human exploration beyond Earth's orbit, including missions to the Moon and potentially Mars. Comprising the Crew Module, developed by Lockheed Martin to support astronauts and sustain life during missions, and the European Service Module, provided by the European Space Agency for power, propulsion, and life support, Orion is engineered to withstand the demanding conditions of deep space and ensure the safe return of its crew to Earth.
