Dr. Mohammed Salem AlMazrooei, a Board Member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, explained: “Since the library was established, it has worked hard to support public libraries by hosting local, regional, and global conferences. These events are important for finding solutions to help libraries and the information sector adjust to the rapid growth of AI technology.”
He added: “This first International Conference on Library and Information Sciences fits into our larger vision. It creates a unique space for experts, researchers, and decision-makers to come together and make practical recommendations for improving the library and information sciences field. The event will help shape a modern and flexible vision that supports the role of knowledge in our communities, especially as we deal with challenges brought by AI.”
Prof. Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Abdulrahman, Chancellor of Al Wasl University, said: “This conference is being held to address the urgent need to manage the huge amount of information and AI technology available today. It also highlights the importance of making libraries sustainable and sharing knowledge widely. This aligns with the UAE’s forward-thinking vision to use AI technologies to advance knowledge, manage information, and handle big data for the benefit of library workers and society as a whole.”
The conference will focus on using AI and data science in library and information sciences. It will discuss ways to include these technologies in library programs and share successful examples of how AI can be used in library education. Representatives from well-known institutions across the UAE will attend, including the National Library and Archives in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah Public Libraries, Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage, and the Emirates Library and Information Association.
Four main topics will be discussed at the event:
1. The role of AI and data science in library and information institutions.
2. Using AI and data science in academic programs for library and information sciences.
3. Applying AI tools and data science methods in libraries and information institutions.
4. The impact of AI and data science on library and information professionals.
This event will play a significant role in shaping the future of library and information sciences, supporting the integration of advanced technologies, and promoting knowledge-sharing in the community.
