Ministry of Cabinet Affairs Honors DEWA for Excellence in Digital Leadership

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has been honored with the ‘Most Innovative Digital Transformation’ award by the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs. This award recognizes DEWA’s outstanding efforts in using advanced technology and innovation to improve its services and promote sustainability.

DEWA received this award for introducing a digital power transmission substation that helps reduce energy waste and lower carbon emissions. This initiative is part of DEWA’s ongoing efforts to create smarter and more sustainable solutions for Dubai’s future.

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, expressed his pride in this achievement. He said that the award highlights the importance of innovation in improving government services and finding sustainable solutions for current and future challenges. He emphasized that such innovations turn challenges into opportunities for growth and progress.

The award was received on behalf of Al Tayer by Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA.

Al Tayer credited the leadership and vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for fostering a strong culture of innovation across government and private sectors. He said that innovation plays a key role in increasing efficiency, achieving national goals, and driving digital transformation and sustainable development.

“In line with the National Strategy for Advanced Innovation, DEWA provides a work environment that encourages new ideas and supports their implementation. We offer the necessary tools and resources to turn innovative concepts into reality, especially in areas like sustainability and renewable energy,” he added.

One of the major benefits of switching to these advanced 132/11 kV digital power substations is that it has helped DEWA complete construction 15% faster while also reducing initial costs by AED 2.7 million per substation. In addition, each substation has cut carbon emissions by 386 tonnes by using a more compact design. The energy-saving system has also eliminated over 54 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, making operations more efficient and environmentally friendly.

This achievement is a significant step toward DEWA’s vision of becoming a global leader in sustainability and innovation, as it aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
