Meta Plans Paid Subscriptions for Instagram, Facebook & WhatsApp

Meta is preparing to test premium subscription plans for its three major social media platforms — Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. The company confirmed the plan to TechCrunch on January 26, 2026. This move is part of Meta’s strategy to reduce dependence on advertising and increase recurring revenue.

The subscription plans will offer exclusive features designed to improve productivity, creativity, and artificial intelligence tools. Meta said the basic versions of all apps will remain free for users.

Each app will have its own paid features instead of one combined subscription package. For Instagram, early reports suggest users may get benefits like unlimited audience lists, the ability to see who does not follow back, and viewing Stories without alerting the creator.

Meta also plans to integrate its recently acquired Manus AI agent into subscription plans. The company is exploring premium access to AI tools such as Vibes, an AI-powered video creation system.

Details about Facebook and WhatsApp subscriptions are still limited. However, reports indicate WhatsApp may offer an ad-free experience in sections like Status and Channels. Meta is also testing additional controls and enhanced features for paid users.

The company will roll out subscription tests in the coming months and adjust features based on user feedback. This move follows a growing trend among social platforms like Snapchat, which already offers premium services.
