While Harry’s poppy appeared to have the traditional leaf design, Meghan’s poppy was notably simpler, missing the leaf on its stalk. Some pointed out that her poppy resembled the Canadian poppy, which features four petals and no leaf, a style also commonly seen in Scotland.

Critics argued that Markle’s choice was “disrespectful,” suggesting it symbolized a lack of reverence for British traditions. One commentator remarked, "It makes one nauseous to see Meghan Markle wearing the poppy commemorating the noble dead of the nation. She is so disrespectful, so disrespected, and apparently, a lot of people agree.” This critique echoed reactions from previous years when Meghan’s poppy choices drew negative responses. Last year, for instance, her decision to wear a poppy at a Navy fitness center opening in San Diego caused frustration among some American veterans. Traditionally, poppies are worn in the United States on Memorial Day in May, rather than in November as is customary in the UK and Commonwealth nations.

Since stepping back from their roles as senior members of the royal family in 2020 and relocating to the United States, Harry and Meghan have not participated in the traditional Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph in London. Observers note that Harry could still attend such events, but tensions within the royal family may make future appearances unlikely.

A royal analyst weighed in, saying, “It is really unlikely that Harry is going to be able to participate in these central events with the Royal Family going forward. It's a pity for him. Although he created his own path here, he stepped down in 2020. He gave up his honorary military titles and the right to wear a uniform.” These comments underscore the impact of Harry and Meghan’s decision to step down from royal duties, potentially limiting their participation in future royal traditions.
