While Harry’s poppy appeared to have the traditional leaf design, Meghan’s poppy was notably simpler, missing the leaf on its stalk. Some pointed out that her poppy resembled the Canadian poppy, which features four petals and no leaf, a style also commonly seen in Scotland.

Critics argued that Markle’s choice was “disrespectful,” suggesting it symbolized a lack of reverence for British traditions. One commentator remarked, "It makes one nauseous to see Meghan Markle wearing the poppy commemorating the noble dead of the nation.
