M42, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (ADQCC), has launched the UAE’s pioneering honey testing laboratory at the Central Testing Laboratory (CTL). This state-of-the-art facility, named the Honey Quality Laboratory, is managed by M42’s Environmental Sciences team and is poised to uphold rigorous standards in honey quality, safety, and authenticity, marking a significant milestone in the industry.
Equipped with advanced technology, the Honey Quality Laboratory ensures thorough testing of honey products to verify their purity and absence of contaminants. It will play a crucial role in assessing the unique characteristics of various honey types, including the highly regarded Abu Dhabi Sidr honey. Tests conducted include examinations for sugar content, moisture levels, acidity, and the presence of additives, all essential for compliance with international benchmarks.
Engineer Abdulla Al Muaini, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory at ADQCC, emphasized the cultural and economic importance of honey in the UAE, akin to dates. The collaboration with M42 aims to bolster local producers and elevate Abu Dhabi honey’s global market presence, aligning with ADQCC’s commitment to maintaining high quality and conformity standards. This initiative not only enhances consumer confidence but also supports broader economic goals.

The laboratory employs cutting-edge technology supported by proprietary data and an AI-enhanced Lab Information Management System (LIMS). This ensures efficient and accurate testing processes, crucial for delivering reliable results. Specialists at the laboratory conduct comprehensive tests, from advanced GMO detection methods to identifying any adulteration that may compromise honey quality.
Albarah Elkhani, Senior Vice President of Operations at M42, highlighted the partnership’s role in advancing digital transformation and AI adoption in the UAE. By leveraging scalable capabilities and advanced technology, M42 aims not only to bolster the local economy but also to set a benchmark for global standards in honey testing. The initiative reflects M42’s holistic approach to health and sustainability, underscoring the interconnectedness of human and environmental health.
Underpinning this collaboration is a decade-long agreement, initiated at COP28, affirming M42’s responsibility to manage and operate CTL laboratories in Abu Dhabi. This partnership supports various governmental entities, including the Abu Dhabi Food Safety Authority, by providing critical testing services essential for safeguarding public health and safety.
Dr. Wael Elamin, Medical Director of Environmental Sciences at M42, highlighted the comprehensive nature of their environmental testing services, emphasizing their role in assessing non-human factors impacting public health. The honey testing service, integral to M42’s food and beverage testing portfolio, positions them as the region’s foremost laboratory equipped to deliver real-time insights crucial for informed decision-making.
Beyond quality assurance, M42 acknowledges the pivotal role of bees in maintaining healthy ecosystems and combating climate change. By ensuring the integrity and authenticity of honey products, M42 indirectly supports sustainable beekeeping practices and safeguards biodiversity. This holistic approach underscores M42’s commitment to environmental stewardship and underscores the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.
