In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam, management has announced the suspension of jeep safari and elephant rides from March 7 to 9. The closure, effective in the Kaziranga range of Kohora, aims to accommodate the Prime Minister's itinerary, scheduled for March 8 and 9.
Arun Vignesh, the Divisional Forest Officer of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, confirmed the closure in a notice, specifying that jeep safari will be unavailable on March 7, March 8, and March 9 during the forenoon. Similarly, elephant rides will be suspended on March 8 and March 9. Prime Minister Modi's visit to the national park is slated for March 8 and 9, with an evening arrival on the first day and an overnight stay.
During his stay, the Prime Minister is expected to partake in a jungle safari within the Kohora range, incorporating both jeep and elephant safaris into his two-day itinerary. Notably, Kaziranga National Park received its national park designation in February 1974 and is set to commemorate its Golden Jubilee this year.
On March 9, PM Modi plans to unveil a magnificent 125-foot bronze statue of the renowned Ahom general, Lachit Barphukan, in Jorhat. Additionally, he will preside over the 'Griha Pravesh' ceremony for 5.5 lakh houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), lay the foundation stone of Sivasagar Medical College, and address a public gathering at Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat.
The Prime Minister's itinerary also includes a visit to Arunachal Pradesh on March 9, where he will inaugurate the Sela Tunnel in West Kameng and unveil multiple development projects in Itanagar, according to a government release.
