Sunjay Kapur, a well-known Indian businessman and the former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, passed away in England at the age of 53. He was reportedly playing a polo match when he collapsed. It is believed he suffered a heart attack during the game. Some reports say he may have also swallowed a bee, which could have made things worse.
His death was confirmed by writer and public figure Suhel Seth, who posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
“Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur: he passed away earlier today in England. A terrible loss. Deepest condolences to his family and colleagues @sonacomstar. Om Shanti.”
Who Was Sunjay Kapur?
Sunjay was the Chairman of Sona Comstar, a major automotive company that supplies parts to carmakers around the world — including electric vehicles. He was also the President of ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India). He came from a well-known business family, being the son of Dr. Surinder Kapur, the founder of Sona Group.

Sunjay was known not only for his business work but also for his personal life. He married Karisma Kapoor in 2003, and the couple had two children together — Samaira and Kiaan. After going through a tough public divorce, they officially separated in 2016. Even after the split, Sunjay was often seen spending time with his children in Mumbai.
Later, he married Priya Sachdev, a model and entrepreneur. The couple had a son named Azarias in 2018.

After the news of Sunjay's sudden passing spread, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan were seen visiting Karisma’s house in Mumbai. Their car was spotted by photographers outside her residence, showing support during this difficult time.
His Last Social Media Posts
Just hours before his death, Sunjay had posted on X to express his sorrow over the Air India plane crash that killed over 200 people in Ahmedabad. He wrote:
“Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour. #planecrash”
In another post, he wrote:
“Your time on Earth is limited. Leave the ‘what ifs’ to the philosophers and instead dive headfirst into the ‘why nots’.”
These words have now touched many hearts online, as people look back at his final moments and messages.
