Josh Hartnett Injured in SUV Collision With Canadian Police

St. John’s, Newfoundland — Actor Josh Hartnett, 47, was briefly hospitalized after an SUV he was riding in collided with a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) patrol vehicle early Thursday, September 25. The incident occurred near the intersection of New Cove Road and Elizabeth Avenue shortly before 1 a.m. local time.

According to the RNC, the SUV was driven by a 59-year-old man when it struck the police vehicle. Both Hartnett and the officer involved were taken to a nearby hospital. Hartnett was checked and released after receiving medical clearance, while the male officer was hospitalized as a precaution.

Authorities confirmed that RNC collision analysts are actively investigating the incident and are seeking any witnesses or video evidence, including CCTV, dash-camera, or cell phone footage, from the area. Residents with information have been asked to contact the RNC at 709-729-8000.

Hartnett, known for his roles in films such as Fight or Flight, which premiered in May, is currently in Canada filming an untitled Netflix series alongside Charlie Heaton and Mackenzie Davis. The upcoming series follows the story of a “hard-bitten fisherman” discovering that his hometown is under threat from a mysterious creature.

The actor recently discussed his physical preparation for Fight or Flight, noting that he performed many of his own stunts. “I was bruised from head to toe… it feels good to be able to throw yourself into something physically and have it turn out the way this has,” he said.

Hartnett was also seen earlier this year filming Verity with Anne Hathaway in New York City, scheduled for release on May 15, 2026.
