The Israeli army hit a building in the southern part of Beirut early on Tuesday, killing at least three people. This airstrike happened just days after Israel attacked the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on Friday for the first time since the ceasefire ended between Israeli forces and the Hezbollah group in November. Seven other people were hurt in the attack, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. The Israeli military said they targeted a Hezbollah member in the strike. This person was helping the Hamas group in Gaza with attacks on Israel.

In another news, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided not to go ahead with his choice of a former navy commander to lead the country’s internal security agency. This decision came after a lot of people criticized the nomination. Netanyahu’s office said he would look for other candidates. The nomination caused a lot of debates, both from Netanyahu’s supporters and his critics. Many were already unhappy with Netanyahu’s decision to remove Ronen Bar, the head of the Shin Bet security agency, calling it part of a bigger attack on government institutions. The Supreme Court of Israel has stopped Bar’s dismissal but allowed Netanyahu to meet with other people for the job.
Also, Netanyahu’s choice of Vice Adm. Eli Sharvit caused anger among some of Netanyahu’s supporters. This happened after Israeli media said Sharvit had joined protests against Netanyahu’s plan to change the country’s laws. Sharvit’s nomination also got criticism from U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who did not agree with some things Sharvit had said in the past.
In a different part of the news, the Israeli army reported that it stopped a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip early on Tuesday. The rocket set off alarms in nearby Israeli towns, but no one was hurt and there was no damage. Since Israel stopped its ceasefire with Hamas last month, Palestinian militants have fired a few rockets, but these have not caused any harm. Israel has responded with airstrikes and ground operations, killing hundreds of Palestinians. Hamas started the war on October 7, 2023, when they killed about 1,200 people, most of whom were civilians. They also took 251 people, but most of them have been released during ceasefires. However, 59 people are still being held by Hamas, with 24 believed to be alive. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, more than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed, though it is not clear how many were soldiers or regular people.
